The marginally attractive girls of the MSU Dance Squad.Computing giant IBM will establish a global delivery center on the campus of Michigan State University, creating 1,500 jobs, in the latest in a string of partnerships between Michigan’s research universities and private industry.

The center will be the first of its kind in the United States for IBM, and will modernize older IT systems for state and local government agencies and universities. Additionally, IBM expects to take on work from telecommunications, health care and other clients.

IBM will hire 100 employees by June, and state officials estimate the creation of 1,500 direct and indirect jobs during the next five years.

The center may employ MSU students in computer science, supply chain and engineering.

IBM is expected to apply for a $1.5-million redevelopment grant but has not applied for state tax credits.

MSU is a partner in the University Research Corridor with the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, a partnership that has generated 70,000 jobs and more than $13 billion in economic activity.
