The Recording Industry Association of America, the lobbying group for the four largest music labels, has laid off between 20 and 25 workers, or about 20% of its staff.

Prior to the cutbacks, the RIAA’s staff numbered a little more than 100. According to two music industry sources, the layoffs happened earlier this month and most occurred at the RIAA’s regional offices.

In December, the RIAA announced that it would no longer focus on suing individuals for illegal file-sharing. The group is now enlisting the help of Internet service providers in thwarting so-called “piracy.”
