Police officers in Stockton, California have negotiated concessions that will keep them patrolling the streets. The Stockton Police Officers Association and the Stockton Police Management Association agreed to a deal that will keep 29 officers from getting laid off this Saturday.

The officers have agreed to give up back pay from an anticipated raise. They also will no longer receive a uniform allowance. These concessions, along with a reduction in part time staff, will save the Stockton Police Department $1.6 million for this fiscal year, according to city spokeswoman Connie Cochran.

“They have been able to work with us, and now we are delighted to not have to issue the layoff notices at this time,” city manager Gordon Palmer said.
