The Clark County, Nevada School District is getting ready to cut its budget, and teachers in danger of losing their jobs are looking to shift to open positions before the layoffs.

School officials haven’t yet specified how deep the cuts will be, but principals are planning to submit proposals for trimmed school budgets soon.

Martha Tittle, the district’s chief human resources officer, says teachers and other employees will know by April 1st if their jobs might be cut. The layoffs could come in mid-May.

John Jasonek of the Clark County Education Association says principals will likely suggest cuts of up to 500 teachers districtwide. But Jasonek says most of the teachers will find other jobs within the district.
