Freightliner to Cut 500 More Jobs in NC

Freightliner truckTruck manufacturer Freightliner plans to lay off another 500 workers in Rowan County and Gastonia, bringing the company’s total North Carolina job cuts this year to more than 2,600.

Freightliner, one of the region’s largest employers, will lay off 420 workers from its truck factory in the Rowan County town of Cleveland. It will cut another 80 employees from its components and logistics plant in Gastonia. Both layoffs take effect May 8th.

Freightliner previously announced it was laying off 2,137 employees from its plants in Cleveland, Gastonia and Mount Holly. Those layoffs will take effect this Friday.

Daimler Trucks North America, Freightliner’s parent company, released a statement citing declining truck orders.
