CorningCorning will close its Danville, Virginia plant by the end of the year, putting 200 people out of work.

The company cited the economic meltdown.

The plant closing is part of a previously announced plan to reduce Corning’s global work force by 3,500.

The Danville plant opened in 1962, and manufactures a variety of hot-glass products.
