Boston School Budget Would Cut 500 Jobs
Post Views 1The Boston School Committee has approved an $812 million budget for 2010 that would cut more than 500 positions, including over 200 teachers and classroom aides.
Along with cutting staff, the district will close six buildings at the end of this school year, and reduce the number of school bus stops.
The budget will included in the mayor’s budget presentation to the City Council early next month.
Teachers, parents, and students strongly urged committee members to reject the budget, as a symbolic gesture to City Hall that the school system needs more money.
A previously considered budget would have cut more than 900 positions,.
