Maine Road Construction to Create Jobs

Maine Governor John Baldacci says hundreds of government projects in the state’s two-year work plan will provide a “major injection of money into our economy and more long-term benefits for our state.”

Baldacci says the highway and bridge projects alone can be expected to create or preserve more than 15,600 jobs.

Baldacci says the projects represent sound investments in the future that, along with budget cuts, are necessary for the state to emerge from the recession.

The Maine Department of Transportation’s upcoming two year Work Plan includes $809 million in capital projects.
