Memphis City SchoolsThe Memphis City School board has approved an 875 million dollar budget that calls for layoffs for 340 non-teacher district employees, mostly school custodians.

Cutting custodial jobs will save the district nearly $3 million. The new budget adds advanced placement courses and science labs, funds literacy instruction and creates a school police department.
