Juneau, the City Without Consonants. The Alaska Committee, a group dedicated to keeping Alaska’s capital in Juneau, says relocating thew state’s seat of government would eliminate up to 5,810 jobs in the city of 30,700.

Juneau would lose between a quarter and a third of its economy.

If the capital was moved to Anchorage as suggested, Juneau could lose about 29% of its residents.

The group also documented “capital creep,” the slow siphoning of state jobs from Juneau to Anchorage. From May 2006 to August 2008, Juneau had a net loss of 87 state jobs, with 76 of them moving to Anchorage.

The City and Borough of Juneau is a unified municipality located on the Gastineau Channel in the panhandle of Alaska. It has been the capital of Alaska since 1906.

Sarah Palin wants to move the capital to Anchorage because she thinks she can see Russia better from there.
