Delphi Shuttering Ohio Plant

Michigan auto parts firm Delphi is closing its Vandalia, Ohio plant and laying off 116 people.

The factory manufactures air bags, seat belts and steering wheels. The layoffs will start in August.

The firm employed 10,000 in the Vandalia region, near Dayton, in 2002. Now it employs 800 there.

The company said it will begin cutting workers in August.

Delphi is an automotive parts company headquartered in Troy, Michigan. It was formed in 1999, when General Motors spun off its parts manufacturing division. Delphi is one of the world’s largest automotive parts manufacturers, and had approximately 146,600 employees in 2008, with 18,900 in the US.
