The layoffs were brought to the attention of the press by the Minnesota Newspaper Guild Typographical Union, which represents newsroom workers.
The Pioneer Press is owned by Denver, Colorado’s MediaNews Group, which operates 54 daily newspapers in 11 states.
Founded in 1849, The St. Paul Pioneer Press has a circulation of 191,600 daily and 252,000 on Sundays.
