Union Deal Could Reverse LAUSD Teacher Layoffs
Post Views 0The Los Angeles Unified School District is working on a deal with the United Teachers Los Angeles union, that may reverse some recent teacher layoffs.
Teachers would take a hit in compensation, and an undisclosed percentage of the 2,000 teachers laid off this month would get their jobs back.
The deal also hinges on $65 million in state funds intended to reduce class size. LAUSD turned down the money, due to lack of required matching contributions. Under the new deal, LAUSD could accept the state money.
The district laid off 2,057 teachers on July 1st, targeting elementary school teachers and high school English and social studies teachers.
