daytonohio_160x120Dayton, Ohio won’t have to lay off 11 police officers after all, due to funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The $5.6 million Community Oriented Policing Services grant will cover the retention and hiring of 21 cops, including the 11 who were already served pink slips.

The city was hoping to get a $9.6 million grant to hire 36 new officers.

Dayton is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Ohio, in the southwestern part of the state. The population was 166,179 at the 2000 census.
