coopervision_160x120CooperVision will shut down its soft contact lens plant in Norfolk, Virginia, cutting 570 jobs.

The work at the plant will be sent to Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico, and Hamble-le-Rice, Hampshire, United Kingdom. No new jobs will be created there.

Cooper has cut 685 manufacturing jobs in the past year.

CooperVision was founded in 1979, and is the fourth largest contact lens maker in the world, and the number one manufacturer of toric lenses. With headquarters in Pleasanton, California, it manufactures in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico; Norfolk, Virginia; Rochester, New York; Adelaide, Australia; Hamble in Hampshire England; and Madrid, Spain.
