illinoisflag_160x120Nearly 30 jobs are at risk in the Rockford, Illinois. City representatives are preparing to vote on a proposition that would add three dollars to the sanitation removal fee as well as increase the city residents’ water bills by three percent. Should these amendments be passed, the city expects that it will generate around two million dollars and it will help keep 27 jobs. If the amendments are not passed, then layoffs are very likely.

“We’ve got issues associated with our overall economy in a budget that’s forcing us to look at alternative forms of revenue,” said City of Rockford Mayor, Larry Morrissey. “The sanitation increase is our way to find a middle ground to avoid laying off individuals if we can. If we can’t pass a sanitation fee, you can expect additional layoffs.”
