Massachusetts Governor Announces Another Round of Job Cuts
Post Views 0Governor Deval Patrick of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is cutting another 1000 state jobs and says an additional 1000 jobs may be in jeopardy if the unions won’t make some concessions. Massachusetts is struggling to close a $600 million gap in their budget this year.
Patrick wants the unions to agree to nine unpaid furlough days for its workers, which would save the state $35 million. This concession would save the second set of 1000 jobs, at least for now.
Further spending cuts are still needed, but Governor Patrick insists that no cuts will be made to education or to state aid provided to local communities.
