Supporters of New City Hall in Las Vegas Claim 13,000 Jobs at Stake
Post Views 0Las Vegas is one city council vote away from approving the construction of a new City Hall in the downtown area, a plan that supporters claim will create 13,000 jobs by revitalizing the down town district. Las Vegas is currently facing an unemployment rate of over 13% and the construction industry, once the cities #2 industry, has been particularly hard hit by the recession.
The plan has plenty of supporters, but at least one councilman has come down firmly opposed to the estimated $185 million plan. According to councilman Stavros Anthony, “When I’m dealing with taxpayers’ money, I’m going to be very conservative. It’s a risky proposition and it involves land swaps and it’s just not a good time to do it” .
The council is scheduled to vote on Wednesday.
