labor departmentAn additional $150 million in training grants for people interested in “green jobs” has been awarded by the U.S. Labor Department. The announcement comes a week after the department awarded nearly $100 million to green-job training and is part of a $500 million initiative established through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The “Pathways Out of Poverty” grants, as the latest funding awards are known, are designed to help disadvantaged populations through employment in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. The 38 grants awarded Wednesday will assist the target populations in a variety of work-related skills, including referral services, services to help overcome barriers to employment and on-the-job training.

The awards were given to two types of recipients: national nonprofit entities with networks of local affiliates, coalition members or other established partners; and local groups, including non-profit and labor organizations.
