commonwealthTobacco producer Commonwealth Brands is adding 35 jobs as part of a $6.7-million investment in its facility in Rockingham County, N.C.

The factory is being expanded to produce a new line of cigarette tubes that are currently made in Canada. Salaries, which will vary according to occupation, will average $37,571, well above Rockingham’s current annual wage of $30,472, according to Business Journal.

Commonwealth produces blended and fine-cut tobaccos along with cigarettes and cigarette tubes. Based in Kentucky, the firm currently employs 224 people. The company will also receive a $100,000 grant from the One North Carolina incentive fund for the expansion if it meets the job creation targets.
