Bunge Cuts 100 Jobs in Illinois

Bunge North America will cut 100 jobs when it closes its soybean processing division in Danville, Illinois on April 23. Executives at the company blame the shut down on the state of the soybean market, which they say is oversaturated. Added transportation costs associated with the plant made it a prime target for closure and employee lay offs. Bunge processes 120,000 bushels of soybeans a day. It crushes soybeans to meal to make animal feedstock and sells the byproduct oil. The Danville plant will continue to accept soybeans and corn from local farmers and serve as a grain elevator.

Bunge is based in St. Louis, Missouri and operates grain elevators, oilseed processing plants, edible oil refineries, packaging facilities and corn dry mills throughout North America.
