oregonflag_160x120Seven city workers in Beaverton, Ore. have been laid off in order to cut personnel expenses from the city’s upcoming budget, according to local reports.

The cost-saving layoffs are the result of construction-related revenue reaching all-time lows in Beaverton. According to the Portland Business Journal, Beaverton’s building departments face a $441,000 deficit for the current fiscal year.

All seven affected workers were in the city’s building and site development departments, according to spokeswoman Amy Miner. The layoffs are effective June 30.

Additionally, Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle told the Oregonian that 10 full-time equivalent positions that are currently vacant will be eliminated from the 2010-2011 budget. The city projects the cuts will save $610,000.
