marylandflag_160x120Maryland governor Martin O’Malley annonced on Friday a $25 million construction project to replace an aging interchange bridge on Interstate 695 near Baltimore.  The construction wil be partially funded by the American Recovery & Reinvenstment Act and will join over 300 construction projects in the state of Maryland currently receiving funding from the federal stimulus.

The I-695 bridge, which carries approximately 200,000 cars per day, is 50 years old.  The replacement operation will be the largest stimulus project in Maryland.

O’Malley has aggressively sought stimulus funding over the past year.  While campaigning for re-election this fall, O’Malley was called the “best prepared governor in the nation” by Maryland senator and fellow Democrat Benjamin Cardin.
