San Francisco Unified May Avoid Some Layoffs
Post Views 0The San Francisco Unified School District announced late Monday that it had reached a possible agreement with leaders of the teachers’ union to limit layoffs scheduled for this year. Union will vote on whether or not to approve the proposal within the next two weeks.
348 layoff notices were sent out during the weekend, but if the agreement is approved by rank-and-file union members, 153 of those notices will be rescinded. If approved, the proposal will require four furlough days per teacher per year for two years as well as some salary cuts.
SFUSD is facing a $113 million budget deficit. These measures should save the district $30 million.
