Las Vegas Sees 14.2% Unemployment
Post Views 0The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported on Friday that Las Vegas, despite its annual spring hiring surge, is now suffering from an unemployment rate of 14.2%. That rate translates into an estimated 140,000 people unemployed in Las Vegas.
With Las Vegas in the midst of one of the biggest real esate busts in the country, construction unsurprisingly leads the list of worst-performing sectors.
The statewide unemployment rate is now 13.7%. Both Las Vegas and Nevada saw an uptick in unemployment this month. The numbers for April were 13.8% and 13.4% for the city and state, respectively.
