chrysler_160x120The Associated Press reports that Chrysler is about to give the Michigan economy a jump start.  The automaker announced Friday that it will be adding 1,100 new jobs to its Jeep Grand Cherokee production team.  The new vehicle, according to Chrysler, is more efficient and the car maker expects good sales.

Earlier today, the Ford Company announced that it would refurbish two of its plants in the Detroit area. Ford plans to utilize the factories to build parts for its hybrid and electric cars.  The plan would create 200 jobs.

Both announcements spell good news for Michigan’s ailing economy.  Michigan currently has the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 14 percent.
