The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal:  Mosaic Co. has given its 60 day warning that 221 of its Fort Meade, Florida mine’s employees may be laid off.  The warning results from a pending lawsuit against the company filed by the Sierra Club and other environmental groups.

The lawsuit stems from an alleged violation of a wetlands permit issued by the Army Corps of Engineers.   A court order, issued by the judge in the current lawsuit, enjoins Mosaic from using three of four of its drag lines in the area, which has effectively shut down the mine’s production.

Mosaic claims that the suit lacks any merit and plans to keep the mine open should the prohibitions be overturned.
