3565053369_6a63e59475-1San Jose is preparing to layoff 50 firefighters sometime this week. The cuts come as a result of budget cuts as well as a contract stalemate.

In addition to the 50 less men and women fighting fires out in San Jose, the city will scrap a total of four engines. They Mayor of San Jose, Chuck Reed, asked firefighters, among other city employees to take voluntarily pay cuts of 10 percent, however, no agreement was made.

San Jose needs to cut $6 million from the firefighter’s union. Firefighters in the city may want to brace themselves for layoffs as the city has turned down the firefighter’s union’s latest. The city and the union will enter in a binding arbitration sometime this fall.
