St_Cloud_State-1St. Cloud State College in St. Cloud, Minnesota has released layoffs notices to 26 of its probationary faculty. The layoffs are part of a plan to slash more than 80 faculty jobs for its 2011 school year.

According to the St. Cloud Times, union contracts require layoff notices to be sent by August first.

The Provost of St. Cloud State, Devinder Malhotra claims that it is not set in stone as to whether the twenty-six probationary faculty members will lose their jobs. According to Malhotra, SCSU maintains the right to rescind layoff notices and, in addition, cannot issue more of them.

Should all 26 of those who received pink slips be let go, that would result in a savings of nearly $2 million for the university. As of now, the college is facing a $13.7 million deficit for the fiscal year of 2012.
