deerfield_beach-1The city of Deerfield Beach, Florida is facing mass layoffs to the city’s parks and recreation, public works and environmental services departments. A total of 106 employees will be laid off, city officials announced on Friday.

24 full-time employees and 82 part-timers will be immediately relieved of their duties. The full-time employees will receive full pay through September 30th while the part-time employees will receive two-weeks pay.

“These are extremely challenging economic times, and this was not an easy decision to recommend,” said the interim City Manager Burgess Hanson. “Unfortunately, financial constraints resulting from the loss of property values and the continued decline in the Florida and U.S. economies required changes in our operations of city departments.”
