California FlagRepresentatives of Sacramento County and the Sacramento County sheriff’s union have decided on a possible plan to prevent layoffs of 85 sheriff deputies. Union members will vote on the plan over the weekend and if approved, no deputies will lose their jobs this year.

Changes to the sheriff department’s contract include incentives for the early retirement of senior officials (who currently receive the highest pay) as well as raising the retirement age for new hires from 50 to 55. In addition, current deputies would be required to pay more into their pension system.
