UbiSoft LogoRed Storm Entertainment, co-founded by novelist Tom Clancy in the 1990s, announced 38 layoffs on Thursday. Red Storm, best known for developing the Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon video game series, has become the latest in a string of developers to lay off programmers. While sales of video games have remained relatively strong during the recession, the trend among studios has been toward consolidation.

A spokesperson from Red Storm’s parent company, UbiSoft, said the layoffs were due to “a realignment of production priorities” and continued on an optimistic note, saying “these team members have the opportunity to consider positions in other Ubisoft studios.”
