atk_300x225Alliant Techsystems Inc. will be adding 800 jobs in Davis County, Utah with the opening of a new facility that will produce aircraft composite structures.  Alliant Techsystems Inc., or ATK, employs more than 18,000 people in 22 of the United States and is one of the largest aerospace and defense companies in the country.  Formed in 1990 by Honeywell, Inc. as the leftovers of a company that had been a major defense product supplier to the United States and its allies for five decades, the company headquarters are now located in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

ATK will begin by hiring more than 100 people in Utah to revamp a more than 600,000 square-foot building near the Freeport Center which will be used as the home for the new production site.  The remaining 700 jobs will be filled over the course of 20 years as demand for the product increases.

“This new facility will be at the center of ATK’s continued expansion into commercial aircraft for both domestic and international markets,” said ATK President Mark DeYoung in Clearfield City Hall at a news conference.  More than $100 million is reported to be invested by ATK into the facility with an aim to become more prevalent in the commercial market for aircraft.  Due to cutbacks, ATK had lost more than 1,500 employees in Utah in 2009.  However, this new facility will be subsidized with government monies and a refundable tax credit of nearly $19 million based on positive performance.
