michiganflag_160x120The city of Duluth, Michigan has announced a job-creation initiative crafted to encourage companies to invest locally.

The Duluth Economic Development Authority (DEDA) approved plans Wednesday night to spend up to $750,000 to this end.

“We’re looking for big projects that can move the needle of our local economy,” said DEDA’s executive director Brian Hanson, describing how the fund will be used to assist projects valued at $500,000 or more.

“I think it has become clear that the economic recovery is not going to be as robust or quick as we would like, unless we have more jobs,” said John Heino, president of DEDA. “It’s up to us now to bring the creativity to bear to use this money wisely.”
