Sikorsky Lays off 200

Sikorsky, a division of Hartford, Connecticut-based United Technologies, laid off about 200 workers last week. This according to a statement released today by Sikorsky reps. Sikorsky, which manufactures both civilian and military helicopters, is the latest in a growing line of aviation companies including Cesna and Piper to lay off employees in a slumping market.

“This action,” read the Sikorsky statement, “was part of the company’s continuous effort to align its workforce size to the prevailing business conditions and outlook.” The layoffs represent a one percent reduction in Sikorsky’s workforce.
