delta_160x120Delta Air Lines said Monday it is hiring an additional 1,000 flight attendants to work international routes. A report by Crain’s New York said most of the jobs will be based at New York’s two major airports.

Delta, which is headquartered in Atlanta, is looking to beef up its presence in New York, as evidenced by multi-million dollar renovation projects of its terminals at La Guardia Airport and JFK International, which are designed to expand the capacity of its long-haul flights.

About 600 of the jobs will be new hires. Crain’s said Delta has already received some 85,000 applications for the positions. Many of the jobs will require fluency in foreign languages including Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin.
