Since January 2006, Blue Cross memberships in Northeastern Pennsylvania have dipped around seven percent. The company recently announced that that particular branch will layoff 75 of its employees, or nine percent of its workforce, by year’s end.

The company’s spokesman, Anthony Matrisciano, said that Blue Cross was in the midst of deciding who will go.

“We’re always adjusting staffing levels to the market,” said Mr. Matrisciano.

Currently, Blue Cross NEPA has just over 550,000 active health plans.
