America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), one of the main lobbying groups for the health insurance industry, has announced a staff reduction of about 10 percent, or about 15 to 20 people.

It is believed that AHIP is close to making a deal to hire several senior-level advocates, despite announcement of the cuts.

The organization is “simply preparing to meet the challenges of the post-reform environment,” said spokesman for AHIP Robert Zirkelbach.

“We are restructuring to meet the new advocacy and policy challenges facing our growing membership,” said Zirkelbach.

He additionally noted that membership is growing and revenues are at an all-time high.
