boeing_160x120Boeing is moving 550 engineering jobs from Long Beach, Calif. to its facility in Oklahoma City. According to the Oklahoman, several hundred of the jobs, which will pay an average of $130,000 a year, will be filled locally.

The move is part of Boeing’s plan to relocate its C-130 Avionics Modernization and B-1 programs at the beginning of next year. A company official said the company plans to begin hiring in Oklahoma after “working on our skill mix and making offers in California.

“In the first quarter of next year we will start to hire locally,” said Steve Hendrickson, Boeing’s director of government operations. “It will be hundreds that we’ll be hiring for. That’s my personal guess.”

Boeing said the move to Oklahoma City was largely the result of economic incentives from the state and the lower cost of living.  The company already has about 1,000 employees in Oklahoma City with about 450 at its offices in Oklahoma City, the Oklahoman said.
