Shaw_logo Shaw Power Group, an energy engineering and construction firm, recently released a plan that will add 225 jobs to its Charlotte workforce as the city’s being groomed to be an energy hub. About 80% of the new Shaw positions will be in the engineering division. The hiring of the 225 new Charlotte employees is set to begin as early as this week. Successful applicants will receive an average pay of about $95,000 per year and will work on the plants built by Toshiba in Charlotte following Shaw’s recent partnership with Toshiba Corporation delegating Shaw as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for most of the company’s new nuclear plants.

Shaw Power Group chief executive Clarence Ray expressed his excitement about the recent development. “We are very excited about the opportunity to increase the size of our staff here in what has become our nation’s new energy capital.”

Shaw has been expanding its presence in uptown Charlotte for several years, after moving to uptown earlier this decade to be closer to Duke Energy, who hired it to design power plants. Shaw Power Group is an arm of Baton Rouge, La.-based The Shaw Group, which registered annual revenues of over $7 billion in 2009.
