NTN_logo NTN Driveshaft, a world’s leader in general manufacturer of bearings, revealed that they will hire about 115 full-time employees immediately due to an increase in demand. The newly-hired workers will be based in the company’s plant in Columbus, Indiana beginning in January 15, 2011 and will receive a competitive compensation package. The additional workers will be taking the second and third shifts of the plant, although some first shift positions could be available. NTN plans to add about 100 production-related jobs and 15 engineering and maintenance positions. Since the positions need to be filled-up immediately, the company is already planning to hold two job fairs in January 2011, one in Columbus and one in Seymour. However, details of the job fairs are not yet finalized.

The NTN’s Vice President of administration, Barry Parkhurst, explained that the auto industry is starting to pick-up after the recent economic recession that affected all manufacturers worldwide. “The auto industry is starting to improve. Our customers had a release of particular models of vehicles we are supplying and they are seeing an increase in volume of sales. Everything is back to full shifts and we are working a lot of overtime because we are working so fast. So, everything is back to where it was prior to the layoff period.”

Jason Hester, Executive Director of the Columbus Economic Development Board, said that the city is grateful for the recent news. “The announcement was good news for the local economy, which is reliant on many manufacturers who are tied to the automotive industry. These jobs should make for a happy New Year for many people.” NTN is the fourth largest employer in the area with a total of over 1,300 employees.
