20111837vclaxhh0Madison County, Alabama is proving the stakes of a great human resources department by committing $12 million to a new 90,000 square-foot building.

The Madison County Department of Human Resources’ former building was becoming too crowded. It was so small that 45 employees had been moved to the top floor of an off-site office building.

Director Drenda King said “It’s embarrassing to not have a facility that can accommodate people comfortably and adequately – especially for a city as progressive as Huntsville.”

The new office will be nearly double the size as the current one. Madison County’s DHR currently has 228 employees and is the third-busiest in Alabama.

The department oversees food stamps, child and adult protective services, the welfare-to-work program, foster care, adoptions, as well as home-based day care centers.
