Electrolux, the 2nd largest home appliance manufacturer in the world, is shutting down a plant in Webster City, Iowa that currently employs around 500 people.

Some sources are reporting that the company is shifting its manufacturing to Mexico, where it has reportedly been building a presence for years.

Jerry Kloberdanz, the Vice President of United Autoworkers Local 442, says that of the nearly 500 employees, the company’s plan is to keep around 75 employees in Webster City at Electrolux’s technology center.

The first stage of layoffs began on January 7th, 2011. The company plans to have shut down the plant by the end of March.
