Backhaul Direct_logo Backhaul Direct LLC, a private freight brokerage company that manages both domestic and international freight and distribution, announced a plan to expand its operations at its facilities in Indianapolis, Indiana that will result in the hiring of more than 324 new workers in the area. The freight management and logistics company intends to invest over $1.7 million to extend its facility located at Virginia Avenue. The new jobs are slated for creation over the next four years. Backhaul Direct currently employs more than 70 workers at its plant in Indianapolis. Through the expansion plan, the company will hire an additional 324 staff – particularly customer service, information technology, sales and management positions.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels said in a new release that he is grateful for Backhaul Direct’s decision to invest and expand in the area. “Backhaul Direct had many options when looking to grow its operations, but it chose to grow where it began.” Mayor Greg Ballard added that he is excited about the project because it will boost the state’s local employment. “We appreciate their commitment to our city and look forward to continuing our partnership with them as they grow.” The state of Indiana reportedly offered Backhaul Direct up to $2 million in performance-based tax credits. Reports said that the state also provided training grants, based on its job creation plans.

Nick Hoagland, chief operating officer of Backhaul Direct, explained that the company’s decision is primarily attributed to the strong support that the state showed since it started its operations in 2004. “Backhaul Direct chose to remain in Indiana because of the strong support and commitment from the state of Indiana and city of Indianapolis.”
