pennsylvaniaflag_160x120Urban Outfitters is planning to expand its headquarters at Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, creating as many as 1,000 new jobs in the process.  The headquarters, which currently has 1,300 employees, has been in the Navy Yard since 2006.  Under the new expansion plan Urban Outfitters will spend $30 million to purchase and remodel two buildings, with the option to buy three additional buildings.  The first phase will add 100,000 square feet to their operation.

The Navy Yard was decommissioned in the 90’s and has become a destination for companies looking for room to grow.  After the site was taken over by the city, private companies have invested $500 million there.  The pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline recently announced plans to relocate its Philadelphia operation to the Navy yard as well.
