JBS SwiftThe Utah legislature has approved up to $1.8 million for JBS USA Holdings, a company that runs a meat packing and processing facility in the city of Hyrum. The incentive comes as a result of the company’s plans to invest over $30 million into opening a new, more extensive meat packing and processing plant in Hyrum.

The company declared plans to add 420 new full-time positions over the next 5 years, with an average salary of $28,500 plus benefits, on its application to the state. They also claimed that they currently employ 1,000 persons in Hyrum.

“We feel this expansion will help us sustain our presence in the state by improving efficiencies and adding production capacity that will provide a solid foundation for years to come,” said Jerry Petersen, the director of operations for JBS.

JBS distributes various meats to over 60 countries across the world. They process and package their meat as well. They currently have production facilities in 10 different states.

The state will pay the company on a post-performance basis, which means that the company will have to report back to the state each year throughout the 10-year incentive payment period. It must meet the state’s criteria in regards to employees and wages in order to receive all the money it was offered.
