canadaflag_160x120The Windsor Airport in Ontario, Canada may be the source of more than 1,000 new jobs in the coming years as new developments begin to take shape this year.

Three major initiatives, including an aircraft repair center and two solar panel manufacturing plants, are beginning to take shape according to President and CEO of the airport, Federica Nazanni.

“When we took over as the permanent operator in 2007, our first job was to set a vision for the airport,” said Nazanni. “What we’re seeing now is the culmination fo a lot of hard work behind the scenes.”

Thanks to the expanding airport, investors have been flocking to Windsor over the past year. The Spain-based Siliken Group invested $8 million in order to hire 175 workers to retrofit a space near Windsor Airport. Solar Source Ontario announced in May that it will invest $40 million in the city, after the city committed to spending $4 million on a solar-panel manufacturing plant on airport lands.
