Blue Heron Paper Closing – 175 Jobs Lost

Blue Heron Paper, a paper recycling and manufacturing company in Oregon City, Oregon, announced on Wednesday that is was shutting its doors for good.  Citing rising costs due to cheap paper from China and falling profits, the company posted a press release and issued WARN notices to its employees on Wednesday.

Blue Heron Paper has been in operation since 2000 and is an employee owned company.  In 2009 the company filed for chapter 11 and laid off 50 employees as part of a reorganization plan.  According the company’s statement, the mill will operate for a few more days until it runs out of current supplies, and there are no plans to reopen it subsequently.
