Nearly 1,600 jobs hang in the balance as Florida’s legislature prepares to restructure the Florida Department of Health.

According to a 154-page report released on Tuesday, lawmakers proposed cutting 1,608 health department jobs. In addition to the massive job cuts, several divisions of the health department will be consolidated and reorganized.

The proposal will supposedly save the state $22.3 million. A portion of the centers who will no longer be receiving funding are those centers who are not federally qualified.
