With all of the jobs being lost across the nation, it’s good to see that some are still being saved.TRICARE_logo_vector_CMYK-160x120 Thanks to a $23.5 million federal contract that has been made with TRICARE, over 800 people in South Carolina will still have jobs.  TRICARE is a military health insurance program that is government-backed.

The workers will now be able to keep their current employment for six years with PGBA, which is a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.  PGBA is a federal contractor for Louisville, Kentucky based Humana Military Health Care Services.

PGBA and TRICARE have worked together for 30 years but PGBA lost the contract in 2009.  Luckily for the more than 800 employed, they won it back.

Over 100 are employed by PGBA in Camden and Columbia, as well as 700 that are employed in Florence.  These workers provide customer service, claims processing, information systems support, and fiscal services for about 3 million beneficiaries of Tricare in 10 states in the South.

Said South Carolina Congressman Joe Wilson to local news company CarolinaLive, “I am excited to see PGBA’s work awarded with a contract from the Department of Defense.  This contract will keep 130 PGBA jobs in the Midlands and another 700 jobs in the Pee Dee.”
